Love

This coming Sunday is the fourth Sunday of Advent, which marks the period of time in the church year, as we wait and prepare for the arrival of Christmas day. The theme for this week is love. Love is a pretty cheap word today – we love our cats, cars and Netflix shows and yet often are unable to love those in our own families.

This Christmas carol written by John Wesley points to a different type of love.

Love divine, all loves excelling,
joy of heav’n, to earth come down,
fix in us thy humble dwelling,
all thy faithful mercies crown.
Jesus, thou art all compassion,
pure, unbounded love thou art.
Visit us with thy salvation;
enter ev'ry trembling heart

This is a love, that seeks the very best for those who will experience it, regardless of the cost to the one who is showing love. John puts it like this,

"This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.

(Joh 3:16)

Love is not just a feeling; it is something we do. How will you show love this Christmas?

This Sunday we continue our observance of Advent as we continue our countdown to Christmas.

Mainly Music – In recess till 8 February 2023. Wednesday from 10.00am. This programme is a fun way for parents and their children to spend quality time together based around music and movement. It is an opportunity for us as a church to connect with and offer something back to the community of which we are a part. It’s also a way for us to demonstrate care, concern and support for those with young children.

Small Groups. We have several groups meeting. Contact the church office@pb.org.nz if you would like to join one.
