Sent

The other day my wife sent me on a mission to drop off some goods, we no longer needed, at a local charity. This mission made me a missionary – a person sent to do a particular task – in this case drop off some goods. A missionary is one who is sent on a mission and therefore consists of two parts – the first is the sending and the second is the mission involved. Most often today the term missionary is used to define a person who has gone on a religious mission. The word first came into use during the 1600’s as people travelled from Europe to other places to tell them the story of Jesus.

The early church used a different word to describe this action of telling the story of Jesus. They used the word witness and the it was seen as the job of all those who followed Jesus to tell others about him.

Both words have the idea of intentionality to them. Those who follow Jesus are sent out as God’s representatives so that others might come to know Jesus themselves. It was just am assumed part of what it means to be a follower of Jesus. What might that look like for you?

We are meeting this week and yes there will be music and singing.  Please note the following requirements put in place by our leadership team.

  • All attendees are required to record their presence – either by app or sign-in (This is a legal requirement)
  • Recommendations that all people wear masks. (We have been advised that those speaking at the front can remove their mask to speak)
  • We are once again serving morning tea but with restrictions in place.
  • Spacing of 1m between bubbles (so no hugging of others please)
  • If you are at all unwell then please stay home
  • And can we encourage you to get vaccinated as a way of keeping yourself and others safe.

If you are struggling at this time and just need someone to talk to then please email us at the address below and we will make contact with you office@pb.org.nz

This Sunday we continue our series reflecting on how we can follow Jesus today.  This week we are thinking about the idea of been sent as God’s representatives in the world.

It’s also a way for us to demonstrate care, concern and support for those with young children.

Small Groups are meeting via Zoom. Contact  the church office@pb.org.nz if you would like to join one.
