You are what you love

James Smith is the author of a book called “You are what you love’. In it he argues that whatever it is, that we love most, is what directs and controls what we will become. So if we love money then our lives will be directed toward gaining as much money as we can, if it is fame then we will be always thinking about how to make ourselves look better.  Smith then goes on to say that what we ultimately love is also what we worship – regardless of whether we are religious or not we worship what we most desire.

I wonder what you love most and I wonder how it impacts the way you live your life?

Jesus call to follow him is a call to make him the thing we desire most – Smith writes ‘Jesus command to follow him is a command to align our loves and longings with his – to want what God wants, to desire what God desires, to hunger and thirst after God and crave a world where he is all in all.’

What might it look like for you to follow Jesus?

This Sunday Darren Ayling, a previous pastor of Wellington Central Baptist, will be speaking on Acts 17 and Paul’s message to the people of Athens.

Mainly Music -  Meets Wednesday’s from 10.00am. This programme is a fun way for parents and their children to spend quality time together based around music and movement. It is a way for us as a church to connect with and offer something back to the community of which we are a part. It’s also a way for us to demonstrate care, concern and support for those with young children.
