Not all the same

On the wall in my office there is a cartoon from Calvin and Hobbes,  the cartoon strip about a small boy and his toy tiger. The scene is a class room and the teacher asks Calvin a question, ‘Calvin can you tell us what Lewis and Clarke did? Calvin replies, ‘No but I can recite the secret superhero origin of each member of Captain Napalm’s thermo nuclear league of liberty’. Teacher, ‘ See me after class Calvin’. And then Calvin says to himself, ‘I’m not dumb. I just have a command of thoroughly useless information.’

I keep this cartoon strip on my wall to remind myself that we all learn in different ways and that intelligence cannot always be determined by a standard test. But as a pastor it also reminds me that God doesn’t always encounter people in the same way and that our backgrounds impact how we hear and share the Gospel story.

It is also a reminder that God works outside of the boxes we might want to put God in. Why not tell others how you connect with God and what that means for you? And then listen to their story and see how much is similar or different.

This Saturday Come and join us for a community fair. From 10am till 2pm. Free bouncy castle and other fun stuff. Check out other post on this site.

This Sunday we continue our series based on the Book of Acts and Luke’s ongoing story of Jesus. Today we will explore Paul’s first recorded sermon to the Jews in Antioch.

Mainly Music -  Meets this Wednesday from 10.00am. This programme is a fun way for parents and their children to spend quality time together based around music and movement. It is a way for us as a church to connect with and offer something back to the community of which we are a part. It’s also a way for us to demonstrate care, concern and support for those with young children.

Small Groups are now up and running again. Contact the church office@pb.org.nz if you would like to join one

Oh and for those who are unable to join us we will still have an on-air service for you @10.30am and again @ 8pm on Thursday evening on Coast Access Radio 104.7FM or you can livestream at
