Advent 3

Advent is a reminder that we are looking forward to the birth of Jesus, the Messiah - the one who came to show us what God is like. It’s a reminder that God reaches out to us, in our place and time, to show us how much we are loved. Unexpectedly it tells us that God reaches out to all people regardless of who they are or what they have done – which is why this is a such a story of great joy to all people everywhere.

As we count down the days will we focus on this news of great joy or will our attention be drawn to the expectations of our society to spend money and purchase more gifts? I hope this year you may find time to discover the joy of Christmas in the simple story of the birth of a child – God come to earth in human form to show us we are loved.

This Sunday We head to Mathew’s story of Jesus and some of the names mentioned in Jesus list of ancestors.  We’ll be focussing on the names of five women who make that list – five quite unusual people who each have a story to tell.  This week we will hear the story of Ruth.

Christmas Carols – Join us on Christmas eve from 7pm to sing Christmas Carols and hear again the story of Christmas. This will be a fun family event.
