Advent 1

This coming Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent – a reminder that we are now counting down to the celebration of Christmas. Advent is also a time of waiting.- waiting for our chance to celebrate of the birth of the Messiah. It’s a reminder that for hundreds of years the people of Israel had waited and looked forward to the arrival of a special child. And finally after such a long wait this Messiah appeared and most people missed it. Sure they were waiting and looking but they failed to recognise that a little baby born in a manger could ever be the one promised by God.

I wonder how often we miss what God is doing in the world around us? In what unexpected little ways is God at work in your life and amongst the people you hang out with? This Advent why not try and see where God is at work in your neck of the neighbourhood.

This Sunday We head to Mathew’s story of Jesus and some of the names mentioned in Jesus list of ancestors.  We’ll be focussing on the names of five women who make that list – five quite unusual people who each have a story to tell.

Mainly Music this coming Wednesday. Meets every Wednesday from 10.00am during term time. If you have small children feel free to join us.

Small Groups are meeting again. Contact the church if you would like to join one.
