The Joy of Being Found

Imagine a search and rescue team has brought 99 people safely down a mountain, but one person is still missing. The weather is turning, and the search is becoming dangerous. Would you expect them to keep searching? Maybe not if it was really treacherous. Surely at some point the search has to end?

There are times when we can feel forgotten or overlooked, perhaps because of the situations we find ourselves in, the struggles we face, or simply because we don’t seem to fit in. We can feel distant from God, wondering whether we still matter to him. But no matter how far away we feel, or how complicated life has become, we are never beyond God's care.

In the parable of the Lost Sheep, Jesus paints a picture of a God who doesn't give up on us. When the lost are found, the response isn't frustration or a lecture about how they got there; the response is joy! The shepherd calls his friends and neighbours together to celebrate with him. What matters isn't how the sheep got lost, but that it has been found.

On Sunday we look more at this Parable, found in Luke 15:1-7
