Ever had one of those weeks when nothing seems to go right? You sort out one problem, and another pops up. Finding hope can feel like a big ask. Sometimes hope arrives quietly. A neighbour drops off dinner. A friend checks in. Someone takes the time to listen without trying to fix everything. Ruth and Naomi were two women in the Bible facing a difficult situation but then someone showed them kindness.
Small acts of kindness might not solve the whole problem, but they remind us we’re not facing it alone. That matters more than we sometimes realise. Boaz’s kindness to Ruth and Naomi made a huge difference to their lives.
We can offer that same kindness, too. Make the call. Share a meal. Welcome someone who feels left out. You don’t need all the answers to make a difference. And if you’re struggling, it’s okay to accept a hand. Taking one small step doesn’t mean knowing how the story ends.
This week, keep an eye out for those ordinary moments of care. Hope might be closer than you think.
On Sunday we continue our series looking at the story of Ruth. Ruth 2-4
