Have you ever caught yourself doing something simply because “that’s how it’s always been done”? It’s a good reminder that culture shapes us in ways we barely notice, influencing what we value and how we treat others.
Peter challenges followers of Jesus to live differently. We’re still part of our neighbourhoods, workplaces, and communities, but our values come from God’s kingdom. That means our worth isn’t measured by looks, money, status, or the latest thing we own. Instead, we’re called to respect people, do good, care for those others overlook, and respond with grace—even when life feels unfair.
That kind of life might look a little strange. But maybe that’s the point. Holiness isn’t about hiding away or following a rigid list of rules. It’s about being set apart for a purpose: showing people what God is like through everyday choices. This week, let’s ask ourselves: whose values are shaping the way we live?
