Sharing the story

There are some sounds that change everything. Like the barking of a dog when you are fast asleep and you get up to discover she is barking at shadows. Or maybe it’s the sound of a newborn child crying for the first time, or the sound of a phone call in the middle of the night, or the sound of a crowd erupting in celebration. In Acts 2 there is another sound. A great sound.

Luke tells us that
On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability. (Act 2:1-4)

The sound of roaring wind. He Haruru Nui. A special sound, a sound that announced
God was doing something new. Pentecost is not simply the story of a spiritual experience. It is the story of a movement beginning. It is the story of ordinary people
being filled with the Spirit of God and sent into the world with a message of hope and joy, they could not keep to themselves.
