I am often saddened by some of the derogatory language used by people on Facebook forums. Genuine questions or observations can generate a torrent of abuse against the original poster. And our public officials have become the source of online abuse and vitriol from those who hold opposing views. It is easier to tear down and destroy than to spend time building others up and encouraging genuine discussion and dialogue.
And what we see on Facebook can happen between any two people or groups of people. Spouse turns against spouse, communities fight each other and nation states use force to dominate others.
I wonder what it would mean for us to build instead. How could we be positive voices in our homes, communities and even at a national level. As we head towards an election when voices will seek to put down how can we encourage and support others to listen well, and to show respect even when we disagree.
We would love for you to join us this Sunday @ 10am. We will be thinking about how we can be builders for the sake of God’s kingdom.
