The current cost of living has highlighted that many people are struggling to make ends meet. While some are doing extremely well, others are finding it hard to put bread on the table. It is also a time for us to consider how we can help those who are struggling often through no fault of their own. Jesus reminded us that we have a responsibility to help those in need. Matthew records these words from Jesus.
"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' (Mat 25:34-36)
But not only did Jesus talk about the need for physical food, he talked about the need for food for our souls. It is fine to have a full tummy but not if our soul is empty. Jesus identified himself as the ‘Bread of life’ the one who can fill our souls with joy, hope and life.
I wonder how full your soul is and what Jesus might be able to do to fill it up.
