Every day it seems, we are bombarded with new ideas and statements about how we should live our lives. Advertising says we need to buy product X if we are to be truly happy and politicians are constantly telling us that they know the way forward and how to solve all of societies complex problems. And somehow, we must try and decide just what is and isn’t true.
The early church faced a similar problem, a growing number of people who thought they had the latest word on just who Jesus was? And some of it was a bit weird. So how do you discern the truth? How do you sort out the facts from the fiction or fanciful ideas? John, who was a good mate of Jesus, had a bit to say about this and he wrote a letter, called 1 John, to the early church challenging some of the new and ‘out there’ ideas that were emerging. Over the next few weeks we’ll explore together how we might figure out the truth about who Jesus was and what that means for us today.
Got questions about Jesus? Why not check out the ‘Who is Jesus?’ link on the page menu.
If you are struggling at this time and just need someone to talk to, then please email us at office@pb.org.nz or call 0223075225 and we will contact you.
This coming Sunday: We begin a new series looking at the letter of 1 John. Why was this letter written and what might it have to say to us today?
A children’s programme is available and a crèche for younger children.
To join with us on air, tune in to Coast Access Radio 104.7FM from 10.00am or livestream at http://coastaccessradio.org.nz...
Mainly Music – Wednesdays from 10.00am during school terms. This programme is a fun way for parents and their children to spend quality time together based around music and movement. It is an opportunity for us as a church to connect with and offer something back to the community of which we are a part. It is also a way for us to demonstrate care, concern, and support for those with young children.
Small Groups. We have several groups meeting. Contact the church office@pb.org.nz if you would like to join one.
