Rules are rules, aren't they?

Have you ever played a game with younger members of your family, and someone has suggested that you bend the rules a bit to make it easier for the youngest player. And invariably someone else will object – no that’s not fair – the rules are the rules. The law is the law, and we can’t make exceptions for anyone.

There are I suspect times when all of us don’t think the rules apply, at least not to us in that situation, and yet most of us are very quick to point the finger at anyone else who breaks the rules. Sometimes the rules we break are family ones, sometimes they may be moral ones and sometimes they may be the legal ones that exist in our country. Most of us expect that when the rules get broken there will be a price to pay, if we get caught. But sometimes the unexpected happens, sometimes instead of punishment we are offered forgiveness – an act of grace from the person we wronged.

In Jesus, God demonstrates grace in action. Jesus shows us God’s willingness to forgive, to restore a broken relationship, to put right what is mucked up. Jesus comes to offer us a fresh start, a new way of life.

If you are struggling at this time and just need someone to talk to, then please email us at office@pb.org.nz or call 0223075225 and we will make contact with you.

This Sunday we continue our Lenten series called ‘Another story must begin’ looking at the characters from the book and musical Les Misérables. What do they teach us about ourselves, others and God?  This week we look at the policeman, Javert, a man who lives his life by the rules of the law. Sunday 10am. A children’s programme for children aged 3-5 is available during the service and also a crèche for younger children.

To join with us on air tune in to Coast Access Radio 104.7FM from 10.00am or livestream at http://coastaccessradio.org.nz...

Mainly Music – Wednesday from 10.00am. This programme is a fun way for parents and their children to spend quality time together based around music and movement. It is an opportunity for us as a church to connect with and offer something back to the community of which we are a part. It’s also a way for us to demonstrate care, concern and support for those with young children.

Small Groups. We have several groups meeting. Contact the church office@pb.org.nz if you would like to join one.
